I am a descendant from Dr Hendrik Simon Pruijs, who was director of the Petronella Hospital in Yogyakarta. His son, Dr Wim Pruijs was a young surgeon in the hospital, when the wounded of the USS Marblehead and USS Houston arrived. Dr Wassell wrote a letter of gratitude to him when they had arrived safely in Fremantle, Australia.
I am currently writing a book about this. 1942 was not a good moment in the was and we should not forget our heroes.

My father was a young officer on the USS Marblehead from 1936 to 1939. I would like to get in touch with the gentlemen who posted last August that his grandfather was on the Marblehead also during that time. Thank you.

My great-grandfather was an officer aboard the Marblehead for its 1937 voyage from San Diego to Shanghai. If anyone has any information specific to this voyage, please contact me.

My Dad was on the ship when she was hit. Great memories of his stories and the three reunions I attended. Great crew and great bunch of Navy wives.

Celebrating the 100 year anniverary of the launching of the Marblehead. I am a retired Navy officer (Submariner) that writes stories about everything from submarine history and development to surface ship development in the twentieth century. I particularly admire the bravery of the men of the cruisers.

I was looking for the book "Where Away" when I found your site. I wanted to send it to my grandchildren. My father was John J. Kelly. He was a sailor on the USS Marblehead during the Java Sea action thru the return to New York City. My father would have been 101 years old next month. He died in 1977. God Bless them all.
