I'm the youngest daughter of Benjamin Grover Hopkins (Hoppy). I had no idea about this site until my nephew googled my father's name. We are so pleased to know there is a rememberence out there for my Dad! His wife Rosemary Hopkins is still on this earth living in the same house they lived in together in San Diego.
Thank you for honoring my Dad.

I originally saw the movie "The Story of Dr Wassel" as a 10 year old in 1944 and finally was able to see it again today. After viewing the movie I wondered what became of the Marblehead. This website answered that question. Many thanks.

My name is Robert Harris Clark and I was wounded during the attack on trhe Marblehead and was sent to the hospital on Java. Later I was evacuated by the submarine USS Sturgeon and landed in Perth Australia, where we boarded a US transport bound for the US. Would be very happy to hear how many of the old crew is still a live. [rtucson8-at-msn.com]

My father, Archie R Lalonde passed away at the age of 94 on January 31, 2014. Even in his last days, his experiences and losses from his time on the USS Marblehead were still in his thoughts.

My name is Jane Kihl- Kippley and my dad was wounded on the Marblehead, taken to Java and I think made his way to Australia. I don't think I know the story of how he got there. His name is Tracy Kihl. Can you add some details of that part of the story? Thank you in advance!

Admin reply: It is highly probable that Kihl was evacuated to Fremantle via M.S. Janssens, a Dutch submarine tender.

I say this because of the known: He was not aboard M.S. Abbekerk with Oscar Rudie, not aboard USS Sturgeon with Walt Joyner and Bob Clark and not aboard Pecos which was sunk.
